In episode 2 of Secret Invasion, Marvel fans were surprised as it was revealed that there is much more to Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) than we previously knew, particularly regarding his private life.
During this episode, Fury is faced with the heartbreaking loss of his longtime second-in-command, Maria Hill (portrayed by Cobie Smulders), at the hands of the dangerous Skrull known as Gravik (played by Kingsley Ben-Adir). As the episode progresses, Fury discovers several shocking revelations about the events transpiring on Earth while he has been away with SABER, adding significant stress to his already burdened mind.
Towards the end of the episode, feeling the need to rest and find solace, Fury returns home. At this point, we are introduced to his wife, Priscilla Fury (played by Charlayne Woodard), who is revealed to be a Skrull as well, adding yet another unexpected twist to the storyline.

Does Nick Fury know his wife is a Skrull?
There has been a lively debate among Marvel fans regarding the true nature of Nick Fury’s relationship with his wife and her status as a Skrull. The episode’s final scene has sparked speculation, as Fury only encounters his wife when she appears in her human form, leaving room for ambiguity.
However, in episode 2 of Secret Invasion, there are compelling indications that Fury is aware of his wife’s Skrull identity and that their connection extends far back in time.
The episode opens with a flashback to 1997, where Fury is shown assisting Talos (played by Ben Mendelsohn) in finding new human identities for Skrull refugees still on Earth. During this scene, a female Skrull named “Varra” approaches Fury and introduces him to a young Gravik. It is strongly suggested that Varra is involved in social work or activism, dedicated to assisting her fellow Skrulls. Importantly, Varra is revealed to be none other than Fury’s wife, Priscilla.
This implies that Varra/Priscilla possesses a noble spirit, caring deeply for her people and serving as a protector and helper—a quality that would naturally appeal to someone like Nick Fury. It becomes evident that working alongside Varra and Talos to aid Skrull refugees forged a strong bond between them. This revelation also sheds light on Fury’s inclination to keep his marriage concealed and guarded, much like Clint Barton/Hawkeye did, as the presence of a shapeshifting alien spouse could undermine Fury’s standing within the spy community.
Rather than portraying Priscilla as an evil Skrull agent who betrays Fury, it is more compelling and nuanced to present her as the central figure in his life. Having a Skrull wife explains Fury’s unwavering determination to help the Skrulls find a new home and the inner conflict he experiences due to his perceived failure and its impact on characters like Gravik. What will become of his marriage if Fury successfully relocates all Skrulls from Earth? And if his secret were to be exposed, how many allies would stand by him when humanity is in jeopardy?
The complex dynamics surrounding Nick Fury’s relationship with his Skrull wife add depth to his character and highlight the intricate web of loyalties and responsibilities he navigates. As the story unfolds, viewers eagerly await further exploration of this intriguing storyline and its implications for Fury’s personal and professional life.
